Big Girl Pants

If you know me at all, you know that I am and always have been Little Miss "Where To and What Next?" so when I brought up the idea of buying a condo here in Chicago to my husband, the Baconator, he was thrilled and surprised. I've always dreamed of packing us up, grabbing the cats and moving to some exotic place abroad like Australia or Singapore or England as soon as my job will let me. We registered for our wedding with the possibility of moving someplace on a different voltage so there were precious few small electrics on the list. We have been living in the same apartment for the last three years because the hassle of moving for just a year wasn't worth it in the long run. We have been putting off getting a dog because we hate the idea of subjecting a young animal to a quarantine. But now I've finally put on my "Big Girl Pants" and have accepted adulthood with open arms.

What do those "Big Girl Pants" include other than a sizeable waistband and a slight taper at the ankle? They include really, truly recognizing that I am a 27 year old woman, with a fabulous husband, a great job, amazing friends and a whole lot going for me right now. This isn't to say that I wasn't aware and grateful for the life I am living, but I've always thought of life as an adventure yet to be explored, so why live in the reality of today when you can live in the possibility of tomorrow? It's one of the pitfalls of being a perpetual optimist, I always believe that there is something great just around the corner.

So with those "Big Girl Pants" in tow, we have settled back into a life in Chicago and have agreed to set roots. We are going to buy a condo and finally get that puppy we've been talking about for years and enjoy the great life we have in the Windy City.

But you know what? If 5 or 10 years down the line, my company says, "Hey Kelsey, want to move to China? We'll make it worth your while," you better believe that I'll be packing up my husband, babies and pets for a move around the world. After all, I'm never one to turn down a ticket to adventure.

Why, Hello There

Hello! I know that I'm not quite done with my wedding recaps over at Second City Bride, but so many things are about to be happening over here that I just couldn't sit around without sharing it. So here I am with a brand new blog, Bacon & Bliss, sharing with you all the details of our newly married life, getting a puppy, introducing the new little fella to the cats, buying a place and exploring all over Chicago.

Why "Bacon & Bliss?" To start, we've spent the past year masquerading around WeddingBee as the Bacons, so that was the starting point, but honestly, I just really like bacon. I like to eat it; I like the smell of it cooking on Saturday mornings; I like that it's the ultimate conversation starter with strangers; and I have a secret soft spot for chocolate covered bacon (or Pig Lickers as they're called at the Minnesota State Fair).  And Bliss? Well, that's what married life is about, right? I didn't want to limit myself to crafts or food or travels or home decorating or our growing menagerie, so I figured that "Bliss" pretty much covered it.

I cannot wait to share this next chapter of our journey with you. The best is yet to come!
